C-LAB realized the first real mobile phone game where the player himself becomes an interacting part of the Augmented Reality. The player is able to take part in a virtual penalty shoot-out with his real foot recorded by his mobile phone camera.
The camera picture is analyzed in real-time by the mobile phone and the real foot of the player is shown on the virtual field at the mobile phone display. Now the player only needs to kick the ball into the goal. Direction and speed are defined by the real movement of the foot. In the AOL-Arena in Hamburg the game called KickReal was presented to the public for the first. The local newspaper “Westfälisches Volksblatt” said in its issue dated 21st January 2005: “The C-LAB team astonished the visitors of the Siemens Technology Forum with a fantastic innovation: here the mobile phone becomes the arena”. Here you can read the complete press release (in german)
The particular challenge was to apply today’s Augmented Reality technology in the context of a game within highly limited possibilities provided by modern mobile phones. C-LAB is presently looking for suitable partners to market that game.
